The Disability Network of Ohio - Solidarity (DNOS) is a statewide 501 C-3 non profit organization developed to promote an ongoing spirit of advocacy on behalf of people with all types of disabilities. DNOS is guided by a Board of Trustees and is run by and for people with disabilities.

Our mission is to work to increase awareness of issues, policies, and concerns impacting Ohioans with disabilities and their families. DNOS also advocates for the empowerment of people with disabilities.

Our goals are to:
bulletProvide public education about issues, policies and concerns affecting people with disabilities and their families.
bulletProvide and publicize a toll-free telephone number to access information about DNOS and share disability related concerns.
bulletProvide forums for information sharing and education for individuals with disabilities and their families, including conferences and workshops where people can learn from one another, share experiences and develop networks.
bulletEducate and provide information to federal, state and local legislators and public officials about issues and concerns affecting people with disabilities and their families, including funding for programs benefiting people with disabilities and the impact of legislation on individuals with disabilities, particularly in: employment; health care, independent living; housing; public transportation; architectural and attitudinal barriers; access to recreation facilities and activities; and the impact of federal, state and local rules on people with disabilities and their families.
bulletProvide all necessary and reasonable accommodations to people with disabilities so that they might fully participate in the activities of DNOS, and encourage other organizations to do the same.

History
In the late 1980's a group of Ohioans with disabilities, family members and advocates united to plan the largest conference specifically for people with disabilities ever held in Ohio. The group called itself Solidarity Ohio. The first Solidarity conference in 1991 was a huge success attracting more than 600 people with disabilities, family members and advocates. Solidarity has since grown in to Ohio's oldest and largest conference for and by people with disabilities. In 1993, Solidarity Ohio incorporated to form Disability Network of Ohio Solidarity.
